Precision Engineering Universal Joint Replacement for Unrestricted Movement

The shop offered the repair option which involves cutting the u joint, welding a new one on, and rebalancing the car (no warranty, no guarantee) Take the U-joint and push it as far upwards in the yoke as possible, put the cap over the U-joint end and gently tap it into place with the ball peen hammer. The U-joint is staked in and appears to have a cap diameter of 26mm or 1.024”x 80mm or 3.088” (ish). Anyone have actual dimensions? Or has anyone replaced one? The u-joints on the cars are considered non-replaceable. if you look closely they are prick punched in and not held in with snap rings. i have ... you can buy those replacement u-joints at dealer for that shaft. a non-service-able shaft has the u-joint that are secured by a press. the press ... I'd take the joint out and remove the cup that doesn't have the C-clip on it and see what it looks like. If the cap won't go on enough to put ... Apparently there is sometimes a little shoulder inside of the yoke that precludes the snap rings from seating fully. A little whiz with an air ... First remove the driveshaft by unbolting the u-bolts from the pinion yoke. There is 4 bolts. next pull out the axle and chances are the u-joint will fall out ... The Universal joint or U-joint is made up of the cross, end caps with needle bearings, a strap kit consisting of the 2 bolts and steel strap and the grease ... It's not a hard job -- I replaced them on my '92 F-150 a while back -- but thought I'd ask for tips and cautions that might not be referenced in the manual ...
