Fuel Starvation The Role of Injection Pump Pumping Failure

The fuel pump is turned on by the computer (ECM), so if the battery is low, the ECM might not turn the fuel pump on. You have moisture, trash, dirt, or some other contaminant in your fuel. That same fuel problem will also ruin the new pump. Moisture in the fuel ... It looks like your tank strainer could be completely plugged up in the fuel tank. It is about 4 inches tall and simply blocks the big chunks ... I would make sure the filter and fuel lines are staying fully primed and not sucking air somewhere. See if the check valve is working on top of the injection ... Turning to the key to the on position will turn fuel pump on for a couple of seconds to prime fuel rail. It will not keep fuel pump running. Try flipping the on/off lever to see if it might free up. other wise the top of the pump has to be removed to free it. They are known for the camshaft lobe that drives the fuel pump to wear off and they won't move the lever enough to pump enough fuel. I'm told the one that won't suck may be due to a bad vane pump and the one with poor pressure may be due to a bad head. Both have high miles. Take the solenoid out and remove the plunger so it lets fuel pass. Then reinstall without the plunger and start the engine and see if it runs.
