Engine Stalls or Hesitates? Injection Pump May Be the Culprit

A GENTLE tap on the side of the injection pump (while cranking over the engine) can sometimes free the little plunger and get it working again. Brand new fuel pump assembly and the pump won't turn on, checked with the fuel line disconnected and no fuel pressure. Everything else works fine. The diagnosis from the seller was that the "fuel pump" wasn't working and there was voltage at the pump, but no pressure at the fuel manager. On the side of the pump there are some torx bolts (4) you can unscrew and open the small plate there. Look for a switch that your lever comes in ... The shims adjust the pump timing, and if you change the pump you'll need a set of shims to retime it. Rebuilding or tuning the pump should not require retiming. I've traced the problem back to the FIP which isn't pumping any fuel. The FIP was completely refurbished at significant cost before refitting.
