I am thinking about putting 235x40x17 instead of the stock 225x45x17...I want it a little wider and a slight bulge to protect the rims from curbs. 235 on a 7 inch will fit and will roll around on the ground. However the sidewall will take the brunt of the lateral load in hard cornering. Ive got standard 17 x 7.5j OZ wheels on my E5 and want to increase tyre size and widen the footprint. Can I fit 235 x 40's on my rims and maintain the offset? I need to pick up some rims before spring...I would like to get some ideas ... wheel spacers up front.
